Remove Silence from Audio

Removing silence trims the dead air out of a recording: the empty space at the start and end, plus the long pauses in the middle where nobody is talking. Anything quieter than about -40dB for longer than a fraction of a second gets pulled out, so the result feels tighter and easier to listen to. It helps most with spoken audio like podcasts, voice notes, voiceovers, lectures, meetings, and audiobooks.

Doing this by hand means scrubbing through the whole file, finding each gap, and cutting it one at a time. That can take longer than the recording itself. Sondra does it in one pass, so a five minute voice memo with lots of pauses can come out a minute or two shorter without any manual editing.
